Your House and Yard
After the retreat from the town, Herbert sends you to an abandoned Inquisitor base west of the Crossroads. Its old house becomes your home. The yard in front of it is where you build most of your workstations, and the garden next to it is for crops. Your graveyard, morgue and church are all a short walk away.
The house
Your first sleep in the bed unlocks the technology tree and sets you up with your first free technology. From then on the bed is also how you save: sleeping at home is the only regular way to do it. Larry sits on the box next to the bed.
The kitchen is broken. Both pieces are repaired where they stand, and both need Building mastery 3:
| Repair | Materials | What it gives you |
|---|---|---|
| Broken Oven | 2 Pieces of stone | A working Kitchen Oven, plus the First dishes technology for free: baked apples, baked mushrooms and Berry Pie |
| Broken Kitchen Table | 2 Wooden Planks | A working Kitchen Table: dough, Vegetable Salad and River fish fillet |
The chests in the house hold 5 berries and 8 loaves of bread.
The yard
The yard’s build desk is where most workstations go: the Sawhorse, Chopping Spot, Woodworking Workbench I, Stonemason’s Workbench, Wooden Anvil, Furnace I, Kiln, Potter’s Wheel, Tool Rack and more. At the start there are none. Each one is unlocked by a technology.
The chest in the yard starts with 2 Boards, a Beer and 100 Water. The row of stockpiles along the yard (wood, stone, clay, sand, ore, coal and marble) belongs to the conveyor system, which is not in the demo.
The teleport stone by the house is activated for free by the story, so it is always there to bring you home. See Teleport milestones.
The garden
The garden has a well for water and room for Garden Beds, which come from the Gardening technology. The Orchardry technology adds an Orchard and Apple Trees, but in the demo nothing can grow in the Orchard (see Notes).

Notes
- Building mastery 3 is more than your starting tools give. A Rusty Axe and a Rusty Pickaxe on your hotbar add 1 each. The third point has to come from the talent tree or a better tool. See Mastery.
- Planting needs green mastery. Garden Beds only work with a shovel or a fishing rod on your hotbar, or the matching talent.
- Most trees around the base do not grow back. They are one-time trees: once you chop one down and clear its stump, the spot stays empty. Ordinary trees leave an empty tree spot behind instead.
- The Orchard can be built, but it stays empty in the demo. An Apple Tree is planted from an Apple Tree Seedling, and the only seller is Herm at his third tier, which the demo does not reach. The other fruit bushes have no technology at all. The Orchard itself costs 10 Peat: a Compost Pile (after Fertilizers I) turns 8 Leaves into 2 Peat, and each crop harvest drops 2 Leaves. That is 20 harvests’ worth of leaves for an Orchard you cannot plant anything in.
