Beer

Beer is the everyday cure for insanity early on: drinking a bottle takes 12 off your insanity. Brewing your own waits on Brewing and a Brewing Stand. It comes from Januarius, who keeps 10 bottles for sale, and there is one in the chest in your yard.

Insanity builds up as you do grim work, and every point of it lowers your maximum energy. An ordinary night’s sleep does not bring it down, so Beer is what keeps your energy bar long. See Energy, Sleep and Insanity for the other ways to lower it.

Larry asks for 2 Beer in Comrade Donkey, to get the donkey talking. Keep two back once his story reaches that point.

Notes

  • Lack of sleep halves it. While you have it, a bottle only takes 6 off.
  • Drinking counts toward two inspirations: Chill Guy (3 beers for the first level) and Bottle Tester (15 drinks).
  • Studying Beer is expensive: 10 Science for 30 green and 10 blue, less than half of what most items give per Science.
  • Brewing it: 5 Hops and 5 Water make 5 bottles at a Brewing Stand, with Farming mastery 6. Hops grow on the Vineyard’s trellises.
  • More sellers come later: the town Tavern keeps 20, 30 or 50 by tier and the Brewery 10, 15 or 20; Januarius goes up to 20 and 30 as he levels.
  • Toast with onions gives “Beer thirst”, which doubles what the next beers take off for one in-game day.
