Januarius
Januarius owns the tavern in the village. He is the first trader you meet, and the one who pays for your Burial Certificates: as he puts it, it is an old village tradition, even though the village never had a graveyard. He also sells Beer, Berry Pie, Town Gratitude and the Exhumation Certificate.
He is also Jully, the Head of the Village. Ask him about fairies and he goes off to fetch “Jully”, who turns up and claims never to have spoken to you. Quests that send you to the Head of the Village mean Jully; you reach him by choosing Call Jully when you talk to Januarius.
You first meet him in What the Fairy?, which also sends you on to Herm, the village merchant.
Selling Burial Certificates
Every burial gives you a certificate, and Januarius buys them at a fixed price:
| Certificate | Price |
|---|---|
| Burial Certificate I | 1 silver |
| Burial Certificate II | 2.5 silver |
| Burial Certificate III | 5 silver |
The first 5 certificates of each kind you sell him every week also give 1 happiness each, up to his weekly limit of 10. In the demo every corpse comes with a Certificate I, so that is 5 happiness a week at most.
Good Fellow
Jully will not tell you how to summon a fairy until you have done something for the village. Good Fellow asks for village reputation 10. Only a few quests raise it, each by 5: Herm’s Planted and Delivered and the twins’ Two Peas in a Pod are the two you can do first. Once you qualify, ask Januarius to call Jully.
Shop
Stock is how many the trader keeps on hand; prices rise as it runs low. See Traders for how prices work.

Notes
- His purse is small. He starts with 10 silver and earns 75 copper a day, and he cannot pay for a sale larger than what he has. Five Certificate I are fine; five Certificate III (25 silver) are not.
- He does not buy Town Gratitude back. He sells one at a time for 10 silver.
- His beer lowers insanity. Each bottle takes 12 off, and he normally keeps 10 in stock. Energy, Sleep and Insanity lists the other ways to lower it.
- Happiness from certificates is capped by town quality, which is 10 in the demo. Happiness beyond that is lost.
- In the demo his store stays at the first tier. Only Herm moves up a tier in the demo.
