Peat
Peat is compost. With Fertilizers I (10 green) you build a Compost Pile, and it turns 8 Leaves into 2 Peat; every crop harvest drops 2 Leaves, so each Peat costs two harvests’ worth. No trader in the demo sells it.
It has three uses in the demo:
As fertilizer. Fertilizers I also gives every Garden Bed a fertilizer slot. One Peat put in it before the bed starts growing adds 1 to that bed’s growing skill, which makes more of its growing steps succeed (see Carrot).
For Garden Upgrade I, which takes 10 and raises the growing skill of the whole garden from 2 to 4.
For the Orchard, which takes 10 but stays empty in the demo, because nothing can be planted in it.
The upgrade is the bigger gain. Garden Upgrade I adds 2 to the growing skill of every bed permanently; a Peat in a slot adds 1 to one bed. The upgrade’s 10 Peat are 40 Leaves, or 20 harvests.
It is an alchemy ingredient with one green and one blue rune, so one Peat alone makes Dream Dust.
Studying it costs 2 Science and 1 Faith and gives 5 green.
