Writing Desk
The Writing Desk is where the church’s sermons are written, and where the whole paper chain starts. From a corpse’s Skin you make Leather Scrolls, from a scroll Clean Paper, and with Ink (Ash, Water and Melted Fat) you write Stories, notebooks, sermons, the Primer and Dictionary, Science Kits and Music Notes. It comes with Writing Basic (5 red, 5 green) and costs 4 Wooden Planks, 6 Bronze Nails and 1 Polished Bronze. It is built in the writing room under your house, the first room past the hatch.
A sermon takes a Story, Ink and 3 Clean Paper, or a notebook instead of the paper for the better ones. It comes out with one to three stars, and the stars are the sermon’s level. A Story in turn costs 3 Faith, 2 Clean Paper and an Ink, so Faith from sermons pays for the next sermon. Each sermon’s own technology is on its page; see Sermons for holding them.

Notes
- Everything here is Book writing. The Primer and Dictionary you write here, the Glossary from the Printing Press and the talismans from the Jewelry Table all add to it on your toolbar.
- A failed sermon or Story gives nothing. They are star crafts: the number of good steps decides the stars, and too few gives no item at all. Writing at or above the requirement always gives three stars.
- A zombie writes everything at three stars. A zombie never fails a step, and it only needs 1 Book writing to start a star craft, whatever the requirement: a Primer in its hand is enough. This is worked out from the game code and has not been checked in play.
- Science comes from here once the tower chest is used up. A Science Kit I is an Alchemy Flasks I, 5 Clean Paper and an Ink, and makes 3 kits of 30 Science each for the Study Table.
- Not every sermon can be written. No technology unlocks the Basic Prayer, Prayer for Likes or Prayer for Old God; the story gives you the first and last as finished items. Several other sermons have no desk recipe at all.
- The Paper maker perk adds 2 scrolls per skin and 4 paper per scroll. It goes by whoever works the desk; the zombie Dead printer talent counts as it.
- Dismantling it returns 2 Wooden Planks, 3 Bronze Nails and 1 Polished Bronze.
