Study Table
Already in place in Alchemy Lab, so you do not need to build it. Building another one is not possible in the demo.
The Study Table is where you research items. Studying an item pays a large amount of tech points at once, from 10 to 150, and reveals its alchemy runes. An ingredient has to be studied before it can go into the Laboratory, so the table is the gate to alchemy. The only Study Table in the demo stands in the tower laboratory; you cannot build another.
Studying an item
- Pick an item from your backpack. Only items you have not studied yet are listed.
- The window shows what the study costs: Science, and for some items also Faith. Science is kept inside the table; Faith is taken from your backpack and storage.
- Press Study and work at the table. The item stays in your backpack; only the Science and Faith are used up.
- When it finishes, the tech points pop out and a window shows the item’s runes.
Each item can be studied only once. All organs of one kind (every skin, every heart) count as one item, and so do the quality versions of a crop.
Science
Science comes only from decomposing paper and science kits on this table, which does use them up: Clean Paper gives 1, Science Kit I 30 and Science Kit II 60.
Notes
- The tooltip does not tell you what a study pays. Before you study an item, its tooltip shows “Study: not complete” with the colours of the reward but not the amounts.
- Book writing mastery makes it faster, though no mastery is required. A higher Book writing mastery moves the study along further with each swing, and the Researcher perk shortens studies and costs less energy.
- Zombies cannot work it.
- The tutorial sends you to the church basement. It says your first blue tech points come from the Study Table there, but the table is in the tower.
- Studying counts toward the Researcher inspiration.
