Wheat

Wheat is the first crop you grow. Herm sells Wheat seed from the start; plant 4 seeds in a Garden Bed from Gardening (5 green), and the bed grows the wheat by itself. When you harvest you get the Wheat back along with new seeds and 2 Leaves.

Herm asks for 5 Wheat in Planted and Delivered, and the Wheat he sells himself only appears after that quest, when his store reaches its second tier. So the 5 for the quest have to be grown.

Notes

  • Planting needs Farming mastery, at least 1, which the rusty shovel on your hotbar gives. Planting is scored with stars like cooking, and its full requirement is Farming 2.
  • A bed grows in about 16 minutes, a little over two in-game days. Growing has 12 steps, but the 4 planting steps count toward them, so 8 are left, at 2 minutes each.
  • Garden Upgrade I more than halves that. It shortens each step to 105 seconds and raises the garden’s growing skill to 4, twice what wheat needs, so every tick moves a wheat bed two steps: 4 ticks, about 7 minutes.
  • At the Millstone, 4 Wheat make 5 Flour, and 4 Wheat seeds make 2 Seed oil for Melted Fat.
