Primer
The Primer is the first writing tool: kept on your toolbar it adds 1 to Book writing mastery, the skill for the Writing Desk, the Printing Press and the Study Table. You write it at the Writing Desk from a Blank Softcover Notebook, an Ink and a Story, with the Books I technology and Book writing mastery 2.
The better books are the Dictionary (+2) and the Glossary (+4), and the talismans add Book writing too. No trader sells books.

Each item is studied once, on the Study Table. Studying does not use the item up. With the Scientist perk, a 30% chance of a Story.
Notes
- A better book replaces it. The toolbar holds one book, so a Dictionary sends the Primer back to your backpack; a talisman beside the book adds its own bonus.
- More Book writing speeds up studying: each swing at the Study Table moves the study forward by your Book writing mastery, up to 3 steps.
- Studying it costs 20 Science and gives 20 blue.
