The Vineyard

The Vineyard lies west of your house, across a broken bridge. Larry points it out when you first look over your garden: “Looks like they grew grapes there. Probably for wine.” Up top you grow grapes and hops on vine trellises and keep bees. Underneath is a cellar, and it matters more than the vineyard itself: every drink in the game is brewed or pressed there.

The bridge

Repair the bridge with a hammer: 4 Wooden Planks, 1 Polished Bronze and 4 Pieces of stone, Building mastery 2. The repair itself needs no technology, but Polished Bronze does (Bronze Polishing).

Up top

Build Technology What for
Vine Trellis (5 Sticks, 3 Peat) Vineyard Grows Grapes and Hops; nothing else will grow on a trellis
Beehive Beekeeping Honey
Gardener Stand and the Grapes and Hops tablets Zombie Vineyard A zombie plants and harvests the trellises for you
Porter Station Zombie Vineyard A zombie carries grapes, hops and honey down to the cellar
Vineyard Upgrade Vineyard Improvement Repairs the vineyard and raises how well the trellises grow, from 6 to 11

How the trellises grow, and why the upgrade’s promised speed-up does nothing, is on the Farming page.

The cellar

A stair leads down from the vineyard. The four drink stations can be built only here:

Station Technology Makes
Vine Press Cold Pressing Apple, berry, blueberry and grape juice from 6 fruit and an empty bottle
Fermentation Barrel Cider Brewery Cider from juice
Brewing Stand Brewing or Mead Making Beer from 5 hops, Mead from 5 honey, and Soldier’s ale
Wine Barrel Winemaking Wine from 4 grape juice, in the grapes’ quality

The cellar also opens onto the underground. Two blockages lead from it to the Factory; clearing the one next to the factory hall counts as finding the factory, and clearing both unlocks a Porter Station that carries the cellar’s beer and wine onto the factory’s drinks pallet.

Notes

  • No cellar, no drinks of your own. Beer, mead, cider, juice and wine have no other recipe anywhere. You can buy some: beer from Januarius, and beer, cider, mead and wine from the town’s Brewery and Tavern stalls once built. Juice is never sold.
  • Wine keeps the grapes’ quality. Juice from ★3 grapes makes ★3 wine, which is what the monks at the Royal Foundry ask for.
