Jack
Jack is the Workshop Foreman, the town’s inventor and the man who equips you for the defence of the town. When the defence fails, his workshop is left behind in the part of town the zombies hold, and he spends the demo trying to get somewhere he can work again. In the demo his only quest is Jack in a Boat.
Armour for the defence
During the defence of the town, Herbert sends you to Jack’s workshop for armour and a sword. Jack makes them on his conveyor belts, and they come out in the chest at the end of the line. Put both on your hotbar before you leave. The story only moves on once you walk out with them equipped; if they are still in your backpack, Larry just tells you to put them on.
Jack in a Boat
After you meet Herm, Jack turns up in your house in the middle of the night. He wants a boat to reach a stronghold at the port, and he reminds you that the armour was not free. The quest has three parts:
- Planks. Bring him 5 Wooden Planks in Twins’ Land. He takes them, and you get 10 reputation with him.
- Tools. He then asks for 5 Bronze Details, which are made at an anvil from bronze ingots after the Bronze Works technology. He takes them and gives you Blacksmith’s Clothes.
- Rowers. The twins will only row if someone they trust asks. Talk to them once you have village reputation 10.
Parts 2 and 3 can be done in either order. When both are done, ask Jack if he is ready: you get another 10 reputation, a Town Gratitude and a Story. He sets sail the next time you sleep.
Village reputation 10 means two of the quests that raise it by 5: Herm’s Planted and Delivered and the twins’ own Two Peas in a Pod are the ones you can reach first.

Notes
- Jack does not trade. He has no shop in the demo.
- He counts only what is in your backpack. Planks and details on your hotbar do not count toward the hand-in.
- In the demo, 20 is the most reputation you can get with Jack. His reputation technology asks for 40, and what it leads to is not in the demo anyway.
- Bronze Details are the demo’s key material. Besides Jack’s boat, they go into clearing the four blockages in the church (one each), graveyard benches, the power switch, and the Reinforced Planks for Herbert’s barricades (two per plank). Herm’s Bronze Scrap is a quick source of bronze ingots.
