Beet

A Beet is a vegetable you grow from Beet Seeds in a Garden Bed, or buy from Herm once his store reaches its second tier (30 of each). A raw beet cannot be eaten. It goes into Vegetable soup, Vegetable salad and Beet slices, 2 to 3 per batch, and Herm pays happiness for it: every 15 beets sold count as 1, up to 30 a week.

Notes

  • Beet beds lose seeds at first. Planting needs Farming 6, and while the bed grows each step succeeds only 1 time in 3 (the garden’s growing skill starts at 2, against 6). A well-planted bed averages about 3 beets and 3 seeds for the 4 seeds you put in. A Peat in the bed’s fertilizer slot brings it to 4 and 4. How beds grow is explained on the Carrot page.
  • Garden Upgrade I raises the growing skill to 4, so 2 steps in 3 succeed: about 5 beets and 5 seeds per bed, a little more with Peat.
  • Studying one is cheap: 2 Science for 40 green, twice what most items give per Science.
