The Village and the Crossroads

East of your house the road reaches the Crossroads, where Herbert keeps watch. From there the town lies to the north, the Barracks and the battlefield to the east, and the village to the south. The village is where the people who survived the fall of the town live: Januarius in the tavern, Herm in his store, and the twins across the bridge.

The Crossroads

  • Herbert stands here and gives the demo’s main quests.
  • The Well teleport stone costs 1 Faith to activate. See Milestones.
  • The Barracks door is just to the east. It stays shut until Fighting Spirit Required.

The village gate

The guards at the entrance to the village turn you away (“Not until the Head of the Village says otherwise”) until you have shown Herbert a burial certificate in Certificate, Please. After that the village is open for good.

In the village

Place Who or what
Village Tavern Januarius, who buys burial certificates and sells beer. Ask him to call Jully, the Head of the Village.
Herm’s Store, east of the square Herm, who sells seeds and Bronze Scrap.
The square The Village teleport stone (2 Faith) and the Royal Services mailbox, which does nothing in the demo.
Twins’ Land, over the bridge to the south The twins Heffry and Jeffry. Jack builds his boat on their beach.
Hangman’s House, further south Where you find Jeffry during Two Peas in a Pod.

The twins want 6 Clay Plates in Two Peas in a Pod. The plates are made at a Potter’s Wheel from clay, which you dig at the riverside just west of your house. The quest gives you your first fishing rod and 5 village reputation.

What you cannot reach in the demo

  • The forest. The road west of the village is guarded, and the guards do not let you through at any point in the demo.

There at the start

  • Royal Services

Notes

  • Village reputation is shared. Januarius, Herm and the twins all use the same village reputation. See Reputation.
  • Both traders reset their weekly happiness limits on Pride day. See Time and the Week.
