Wood wedge
A Wood wedge is split from a Short Log at the Chopping Spot: one Short Log gives 10 wedges, or 15 with the Axeman perk. The recipe comes with Chopping (8 red) and needs Building mastery 3, one more than the rusty axe and pickaxe give, so buy the first Building node on the talent tree first.
Wedges are what you split Stone with. The Stonemason’s Workbench turns 2 Stone and 4 wedges into 4 Pieces of stone, so one Short Log’s worth of wedges covers two and a half batches, 10 Pieces of stone. No trader sells wedges, so every Piece of stone in the demo, and with it the Kiln, the furnace and every Bronze Detail, goes back to the Chopping Spot.

Each item is studied once, on the Study Table. Studying does not use the item up. With the Scientist perk, a 30% chance of a Story.
Notes
- Their only other use is Wooden Trinkets: 4 Oiled Planks and 8 wedges at the Woodworking Workbench, Building 6. Trinkets are a trade good, and the only buyers are the Trademaster and the Furniture Maker in town, neither of which is in the demo.
- Studying a wedge is poor value. It costs 2 Science for 10 red, and a Short Log gives the same 10 red for 1 Science. Science is scarce in the demo; see the Study Table.
