Smithy I

The Smithy I is the Factory’s furnace. It smelts and fires with Coal instead of Fuel: 1 Iron Ore and 1 Coal make an Iron Ingot, 2 Clay and 1 Coal make 2 Bricks, and 3 Sand and 1 Coal make Glass. With extensions it also makes Iron Kits I, Tableware and Glass Containers. It comes with Smithy I (75 red, 20 blue), on the Metallurgy page right after Iron Smithing, which gives the bricks and glass; the ingots and Iron Kits come with the next one, Smithy: Hammer (80 red, 30 blue). The Smithy costs 6 Reinforced Planks, 4 Bronze Details and 4 Bronze Gears at the factory’s build desk.

Like the other factory workbenches it is worked by a zombie with materials from the belts, not by you, and it only runs while the factory has power.

Notes

  • Iron Kits I are four times cheaper here. At the Smithy: Hammer one Iron Ingot makes 4 Iron Kits I; at the Iron Anvil it makes one.
  • A Smithy has one small and one large extension spot. The Bellows takes the small one; the Hammer, the Press and the Grindstone share the large one, so a Smithy runs only one of those three.
  • Ore goes one for one. The Smithy turns each Iron Ore into an ingot with a Coal; Furnace II turns 3 ore into 3 ingots with 30 Fuel. Glass goes the other way: 3 Sand make 1 Glass here and 3 at the furnace.
  • The Zombie Miner supplies both halves. Each round it brings 1 Iron Ore and 2 Coal, and a porter carries them to the factory’s heaps.
  • Tableware and Glass Containers are made only here (and at Smithy II). The factory kitchen’s preserve crates need the containers.
  • Mastery: Smithing 2 for ingots, bricks and glass, 3 for Iron Kits, 4 for Tableware and Glass Containers. A hammer in the zombie’s hand gives it 1 to 6 Smithing.
  • Taking it down returns everything it cost.
