What's Not in the Demo
The demo ships with much of the full game’s data, so a lot of it is visible: locked technologies on the tree, furniture on build desks, organs on the autopsy table. This page lists what you can see but not use. Everything here is from the demo’s game files; the full game may well differ.
Technologies
- The demo has 51 of the 236 technologies. The rest appear on the tree as locked “?” blocks that cannot be opened or bought.
- Some actions “give” a locked technology and nothing happens. Eating raw flesh, harvesting certain crops and repairing the kitchen table are meant to unlock Cooking technologies. The demo records them and shows nothing, and they have no effect.
- What the locked technologies will unlock is not in the demo’s data. Their unlock lists are empty, so the demo cannot tell you what they will do.
Corpses, graves and the morgue
| What you see | In the demo |
|---|---|
| Heart, brain and guts on the autopsy table | Always unknown. No technology in the data unlocks them. You can work with skin, bones and skulls. |
| Better corpses | Every corpse is of the lowest tier and comes with a Burial Certificate I. |
| Stone and marble gravestones | Not available. You have the Wooden Sign, Wooden Cross I and Wooden Fence I, so a grave scores 3 at most. |
| The Embalming Table, Autopsy Table II, Corpse Pallet II and Crematorium II | No way to unlock them. |
| The broken morgue door | Its repair needs an Iron Detail, which nothing in the demo makes or sells. The donkey always leaves bodies outside. |
The Skin and Bones technology lists a Butcher’s Kit among its unlocks. The kit would add Anatomy mastery from your hotbar, but it is made at the Jewelry Table, which you cannot build in the demo.
Sermons and the church
- Every sermon is capped at 10 parishioners. Parishioners are limited by your happiness, happiness by town quality, and town quality only reaches 10 in the demo. A church above quality 10 seats nobody extra.
- You only ever have the one sermon the story gives you. Paper, ink, notebooks and every written sermon have no recipe you can unlock in the demo, and the Writing Desk they would be made at cannot be built: it needs Polished Bronze, which nothing in the demo unlocks and only town stalls sell.
- The church has only its first tier. Interior Bench I, Confession Booth I, Church Shrine I and Improve the Church I can be built. The better furniture, candles, incense, choir and organ belong to locked technologies.
Traders and the town
- Only two traders. Januarius stays at his first tier, and Herm reaches his second.
- Town stalls, town orders and the traders’ blackboard are not in the demo. The stalls that would sell things like Melted Fat, Oiled Planks and paper cannot be built.
- Reputation stops early. Herbert and Jack reach 20 at most. Jack’s reputation technology asks for 40.
Zombies, study and alchemy
- Zombie work sites are not in the demo: the sawmill, mine, sand and clay pits, quarry, gardeners, porters and the conveyor factory all belong to locked technologies. A zombie can only work a workbench or a supply station.
- There is no zombie limit and no PR Machine in the demo.
- Only the two-ingredient Laboratory I exists. Six alchemy products need three ingredients, and the alchemy powders are only sold by a town stall. Cocoa and fireflies can never go into the laboratory.
Places you cannot reach
- The forest. The road west of the village stays guarded for the whole demo.
- The mine and the quarry cave. The mine’s entrance is hidden, and the quarry cave needs dynamite, which is a locked technology.
Notes
- Unconfirmed: whether technologies “given” in the demo carry over when a demo save is opened in the full game. The code that would hand them out is not called anywhere in the demo.
