Sluice Box

The Sluice Box washes Sand for Tin: every 3 Sand give 2 or 3 Tin. It is the only source of Tin, and Tin is what makes the better bronze recipe work: at the furnace 3 Copper Nuggets and 1 Tin make 4 Bronze Ingots, where 3 Bronze Scrap make only 2. It comes with Bronze Forge (20 red), the same technology as that recipe, and costs 4 Boards and 4 Bronze Nails. It stands in your yard.

Notes

  • You work it by hand. Unlike the furnace it does not run by itself: each wash takes 5 steps at 1 energy each and needs Smithing mastery 2.
  • Both raw materials never run out. The sand pit at Riverside and the copper vein by the garden refill as soon as you empty them, so the sluice and the furnace together make bronze without buying anything.
  • Gold only comes with a perk. With the Gold Digger perk each wash has a 40% chance of a Golden nugget as well. The chance goes by whoever works the sluice, and zombies cannot learn Gold Digger, so a zombie working it never finds gold.
  • Dismantling it returns half the materials: 2 Boards and 2 Bronze Nails.
