Rusty Shovel
The Rusty Shovel is in the chest in the graveyard, with the Rusty Hammer and three Wooden Signs. It is the gravedigger’s tool: a shovel digs graves, and also clay, sand, bushes and tree stumps.
On your toolbar it adds Farming mastery +1, and that is what lets you use garden beds and plant at all, since beds need at least 1 Farming. It does not help with the things it digs, though: clay pits and sand pits are Building jobs, so for those your axe and pickaxe count, not the shovel.

Each item is studied once, on the Study Table. Studying does not use the item up. With the Scientist perk, a 30% chance of a Story.
Notes
- It is not enough for stumps. Digging out a tree stump needs Farming 2 (big stumps 5), so the Rusty Shovel alone cannot do it. The Bronze Shovel adds 2.
- Graves have no mastery requirement, so it digs and fills them from the start.
