Expand graveyard I

Expand graveyard I is the first of three expansions for the graveyard. It costs 12 Pieces of stone and becomes available after Certificate, Please, the quest in which you take your first Burial Certificate to Herbert. It clears a plot of weeds in the graveyard grounds, lays a stretch of path through it and opens it for building.

It is not something you place. Choose it at the graveyard’s build desk and press Build: the stone is taken and the plot opens at once, with no building work. It also unlocks Expand graveyard II, and it counts toward the Cemetery Expander inspiration.

Notes

It cannot be undone. There is no way to take an expansion down again, and once built it leaves the build desk.
The plot is for Grave Areas and the other graveyard areas. Graves and decorations only count toward graveyard quality inside such an area, so an expansion by itself adds nothing to quality.
Unconfirmed: you probably need it before your second area. The area you start with already fills the plot you begin with. This follows from the game’s files and has not been checked in play.
